Country Grammar is the 1st single by American rapper Nelly, released in 2000 from his debut album of the same name. The single was an instant hit across the airwaves and charts, reaching no.7 on the Hot 100 and no. 1 on the Hot Rap Tracks, bringing the life and sound of St. Louis to the world.
The album received raving reviews from music critics debuting at no.3 on the US Billboard 200 and certified 9x platinum by the RIAA in 2004. Other singles released from the album included “E.I”, “Ride Wit Me” and “Batter Up”, all receiving massive play on the airwaves and in the clubs.
The music video for Country Grammar highlights the streets of Nth St. Louis with the party scenes shot a block away from Nelly’s Labadie Avenue home. The video showcases numerous muscle cars and what can only be perceived as the greatest block party in St Louis.
Here’s a fun fact: Country Grammar was so irresistible that the king of pop Michael Jackson called Nelly personally to express his love for the song. Michael Jackson!!! Now that’s cool.
With 8 studio albums along with other compilation, remix albums and numerous hits to his name, Nelly has certainly cemented himself as one of the Hip Hop greats. Not only did he put St. Louis on the Hip Hop map, but he also introduced the collaboration of Hip Hop and Country music into the mainstream.
With that said, we’re bringing the rapper from the Midwest into the mix this week. So here’s Nelly with Country Grammar to liven up your weekend.
