The accompanying music video shows a less conservative image of Carey than most of her fans had previously seen featuring a James Bond themed plot where she escapes her captors from a mansion through the use of a jet ski and helicopter.
Honey became Carey’s 3rd single to debut on the top of the Billboard Hot 100 and became her 12th #1 single at the time. Internationally, the song peaked at the Top 5 in Canada, UK, New Zealand and Spain, and was a Top 10 hit in Australia, Sweden and Italy. With its commercial success, the song was nominated in 2 categories at the 40th Annual Grammy Awards for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance and Best R&B Song.
Honey was the defining song in Carey’s career where it pushed her further into the hip hop genre where she would later go onto collaborate with other high profile Hip-Hop artists to the likes of Busta Rhymes, Snoop Dogg and Jay Z to name a few.
