"Informer" is song by Canadian reggae artist Snow released in 1992 from his debut Album 12 Inches of Snow. The track was produced by MC Shan who also contributes to a rap verse on the single.
This song at the time squashed the myth that pop audience wouldn’t embrace any tunes whose lyrics weren’t in English. The accompanying music video directed by George Seminara originally had no subtitles but was later added on due to very few people understanding the lyrics of the song.
Informer was a chart-topping hit spending 7 weeks at no.1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and won a Juno Award for Best Reggae Recording in 1994. VH1 ranked informer at no. 84 on their 100 Greatest Songs of the 90s in 2007 and in 2020, Cleveland.com ranked it at no. 127 on their list of the best Billboard Hot 100 No.1 songs of the 90s.
The song had a revival in 2019 by Puerto Rican singer, songwriter and rapper Daddy Yankee as "Con Calma" which also featured Snow lending a verse to the remake. The remake did well commercially and topped the charts of 20 countries and reached the top 10 in ten other countries.
We loved the Spanish take by Daddy Yankee but you really can’t beat the original from Snow. With that said, here’s Informer to take us into the weekend.
