"The Best Things In Life Are Free" is a duet by legends Luther Vandross and Janet Jackson released as the second single from the 1992 Soundtrack Mo’Money starring Damon Wayans and Stacy Dash. The song was written by Michael Bivens and Ron Devoe from Bell Biv Devoe with Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis producing the track with lots of New Jack beats.
The single performed well commercially debuting at No.24 on the US Billboard Hot 100 and reaching No.10 for three consecutive weeks. Internationally, it peaked at No.2 in Australia and the UK, reaching No.6 in Ireland and New Zealand and No.8 in Canada and Germany. Although the soundtrack peaked at No.6 on the US Billboard 200 and reached the 2nd spot on the R&B albums chart, it was certified Platinum by the RIAA 3 months after its release date of June 1992 when the soundtrack exceeded sales of 1,000,000 copies in the US alone.
The songs from this Soundtrack is a perfect blend of sounds for fans of the early 90s R&B era with seven singles released from the all-star ensemble to the tunes of Ice Cream Dream by MC Lyte, Money Can’t Buy You Love by Ralph Tresvant and Let’s Get Together by Krush to name a few.
