Boyz II Men was on the rise upon release of End of The Road following the success of their debut album Cooleyhighharmony. Managed by Michael Bivens from Bell Biv Devoe (BBD), they were part of the East Coast Family and best known for punching out harmony vocals with all of the members singing at once.
Babyface penned the lyrics to End of The Road with each member of the group taking center stage singing individually on the versus, proving to be an effective formula for the group evident by the domestic and international success of the track where it spent 13 consecutive weeks at No.1 on the US Billboard Hot 100 and reached No. 1 in Australia, the UK and the Hot 100 Eurochart among others.
In recognition of the success of End of The Road, Billboard ranked it as the 6th most successful song of the decade 1990 – 1999 and ranked it as the number one single of 1992 on the Billboard Year End Hot 100 Singles of 1992. The single also received certified Platinum by the RIAA, winning the Best R&B performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals and Best R&B Song at the 1993 Grammy Awards.
