90s Music Classic Music RnB Vintage

Released in ‘98, The Boy Is Mine is a duet by RnB singers Brandy and Monica, and is the lead single from both singers’ 2nd album Never Say Never by Brandy and The Boy is Mine by Monica. The song received positive reviews from music critics and was the first no.1 pop hit for both artists in the US and internationally.
The lyrics of the mid-tempo RnB track revolves around two women fighting over a man, and with the media’s presumption of a rivalry between the two young singers, The Boy Is Mine became the best-selling song of the year in the US, selling over 2.6 million copies and spent 13 weeks at the top of the US Billboard Hot 100. Internationally, the single also received strong charting, peaking at no. 1 in Canada, the Netherlands and New Zealand, while reaching the top five on most of the other charts on which it appeared.
The music video directed by Joseph Kahn was nominated for two MTV Video Music Awards including Video of The Year and Best RnB Video. In addition, The Boy Is Mine was awarded the Grammy Award for Best RnB Vocal Performance by a Duo or Group and received nominations for both Record of the Year and Best RnB Song in 1999.
With so many accolades associated with this classic track, it’s not hard to see why The Boy Is Mine is one of the most beloved RnB singles of the late 90s. So if you’re feeling nostalgic this weekend, get on the Brandy and Monica train.
