90s Music Classic Hip Hop Music

“I Got 5 on It” is a single released by American rap duo Luniz in May ‘95 as the lead track from their debut album Operation Stackola. The group was formed by rappers Yukmouth and Numskull is ’94 hailing from Oakland, California.
The single features R&B singer Michael Marshall with sampling from Club Nouveau’s “Why You Treat Me So Bad”, Kool and the Gang’s “Jungle Boogie” and Audio Two’s “Top Billin’”. The song reached no.8 in the US and had international success reaching no.2 in Germany and no.3 in the UK.
A remix was later released featuring Oakland rappers Dru Down, E-40, Richie Rich, Shock G (RIP) and Spice 1, gaining massive airplay and boosting further commercial success since releasing the original. The single went on to be Certified Platinum by the RIAA, selling more than one million copies in the US alone.
Staying dormant from the airwaves for some time, it wasn’t until the song was used as the theme song for the horror movie "Us" that injected life back into this classic track. The duo released two more albums, Lunitik Muzik in ’97 and Silver & Black in ’02 before splitting up, but it was “I Got 5 On It” that put the boys on the map and is the track they’re best known for. So on that note, we hope you enjoy this laid-back lazy rap by Luniz with that irresistible hook this weekend. Peace out!
